psa to everyone on antipsychotics during the summertime

some antipsychotics can make you more susceptible to heat exhaustion because they make it so your body cannot regulate your body temperature correctly. I learned this the hard way last summer, I got really nasty heat exhaustion while on a high dose of quetiapine. so check if your meds react badly to heat, and if they do, please be sure to wear your sunscreen, have light cover ups on or with you, wear a hat, and stay hydrated! be safe

especially duloxetine and clozapine, know the signs of dehydration, take cooling breaks if you have to be in the sun

duloxetine is commonly branded in the USA as Cymbalta.

Note: many anti-bipolar meds are also antipsychotics. I found a list of psychotropic meds that can increase risk of heat exhaustion here:

Can personally confirm that Latuda/Lurasidone can also mess with your heat response and lead to heat exhaustion if you aren’t careful, like I wasn’t.

When I was on Citalopram there were several incidents where I nearly passed out in the summer and I had no idea it was the meds until a few years into taking them. It’s not a very well-known side effect so it’s good to be aware of this!

I have noticed that I’ve felt a little more just.. sensitive to the heat, but I thought it was just me. Good to know that there might be something else causing it.

I honestly don’t know what to do. They do this like once season I swear.

IDK what to do. I’m too gay and apparently exposing my queer kid to the culture and my friends is grounds for eviction and homelessness.

I’m tired of being threatened with being kicked out every few months for something stupid and petty or bigoted.

IDK where we would go. I’m still looking for a job and so is my husband.

Cool cool cool. It’s not only about me being queer apparently. I guess it’s about how we wouldn’t let our daughter go to my mother in law’s culty bible study. My mother in law is being petty about me letting my kid go to a drag show with me but not bible study.

Guess if we want to continue to live here I have to change my sexual preferences and let my daughter attend a fire and brimstone, doomsday, conspiracy theory laden bible study with old ladies.

Washington state. We live in Whatcom county. We’re already on the waiting list for a waiting list for housing which is good but also :/ They can’t help us any sooner I think. But now that my in laws have turned from emotionally abusive to ultimatums, they might be able to.

You know the worse feeling is, even if we somehow got to stay, I wouldn’t want to. They spew such hate and bigoted shit that I don’t think I can hide it from my kid anymore. All the stuff they say about me is about her as well but they just don’t realize it. I’m too gay? So it she? I’m too brown? She’s half brown.

I’m fucked either way.

So, this hasn’t crossed my dash yet. (Not blaming anyone, there is soooo much going on in the world and I’d also missed it in the noise).

There is currently a strike at Frito-Lay. in Topeka. These workers are striking because:

They were being forced to work 84 hour weeks. The company’s best offer so far is a 60 hour cap. This is shit we fought for a century ago, people.

Their generous offer also includes a whole 4 percent wage increase…over the next 2 years. I’m not sure what COL is in Topeka, but… Well, it’s better than the entire 77 cents they’ve apparently gotten in the last decade.

There’s also a report that a worker literally collapsed and dropped dead on the line and the foreman’s response was to make them move the body out of the way and put in a replacement. (However, this is unconfirmed and, of course, the company denies it).

There have been multiple OSHA violations at this plant over the last few years, including a forklift accident that’s under investigation.

They’ve now been striking since July 5 but, of course, it only hit the national media yesterday.

So, why am I signal boosting this?

Because Frito-Lay is refusing to budge. They are attempting to make the excuse that union leadership agreed to the 60 hour work week and crappy pay cut…when union leadership only agreed to put it to a vote.

And this means that we need to put the thumbscrews on them. Remember, this is about 19th century style working conditions.

So, I’m calling on my followers to boycott Frito Lay’s until the strike is involved.
